Square Tail

Square Tail: Maybe the most common tail on old-school, single fin, 2+1 Longboards, and Noseriders in particular, is the Square Tail. It allows for the creation of great downforce in the tail of the board, and still can be turned, depending on bottom and rail contours, with either traditional, or high-performance characteristics. Below, we have three examples:

1  2 3

On the left 1. Is Donald Takayama’s “In the Pink” model. It is a high-performance noserider, and is the best-selling longboard that Surftech has ever made. It can be ridden as a Single Fin, or as a 2+1, with Side Bites and a mid-sized Center Fin. It has harder rails in the tail than most dedicated noseriders, so it turns quite well, and can handle vertical maneuvers, while its ultra-wide nose is ideal for long noserides. 2. Is Gerry Lopez’s “Long Haul” model, which is a great, all-around, Single Fin longboard. 3. Roger Hinds makes the “Renaissance.” Again, a great all-around, Single Fin longboard. All of these boards are forgiving, easy to ride, and will perform well off the tail, or on the nose.
