Surf Source was founded in 2023, when Michael Avatar came to Varkala, Kerala to surf, but could only find beat up, old worn-out boards to rent, or borrow.
He had been selling and using SurfTech surfboards since the 1990’s in his Malibu, California surf shop(s) “Surfer Surplus” and “Malibu Ocean Sports;” and surf school “Malibu Mike’s.” He inquired with his old friend at SurfTech, who just so happened to now be in charge of international distribution, to see who was selling boards in India.
The answer was “nobody, yet… how about you?” And thus, with the help of his new friend, an avid surfer and now business partner Jose Luke, Surf Source was born.
Our mission is to satisfy the desperate need for top quality surfboards, designed by the most legendary shapers and brands in the world, and produced here in South East Asia.
To complement the SurfTech surfboards, they also began importing Surf Source branded surf accessories, such as leashes, traction pads, board bags, board socks, fins, etc.

“The big difference with Surf Source and any of its competitors, or even other companies around the world, is we are dedicated to providing the best boards and accessories the world has to offer, at the absolute lowest prices possible.
We have stuck to this mantra since our inception, and have provided many hundreds of boards now, up and down both coasts, to surf schools and individual surfers of every skill level. We have three ranges of softboards for surf schools and first-time beginners, as well as all of the top hard board brands from around the world that are produced by SurfTech.
When it comes to hard boards, we offer top name brand Shortboards, Mid-Lengths (Funboards), and Longboards, for everyone from beginners, to intermediates, to advanced, even competitive and professional surfers. SurfTech’s boards from a couple of its shapers/brands are currently being used in the WSL by top professionals, as well as by countless pro-level surfers around the world.
We DEEPLY discount everything we import, with the sole intention of helping to grow the sport of surfing all across India. This is our goal, and we are dedicated to it.
